Default Character Transfer

I did not find this suggestion anywhere so I thought I would post it here.

Character transfer between accounts

I think this would be a wonderful addition to the game that some people would be willing to pay for. You could add this to the store and charge a "shipping fee". I think people would be willing to pay to keep skills and titles.

To keep things even, Guild Wars would not need to "unlock" the skills on the new account. If a person desires to unlock they would need to do so the old fashion way and either capture it or buy it. As for the players campaign I think that a transferred Character might even have to restart the campaign from a certain point. For example, in Guild Wars Prophecies a character would have only the missions completed up to Lions Arch and start from there with no outpost or missions revealed and the character not ascended.

I think that the character would be transferred to a person only if that game is available to the player. That way a Guild Wars player could not transfer a Paragon from a Guild Wars: Nightfall player.

I believe charging a fee is a good idea to reduce the number of players attempting to sell their characters; However, if you offer the ability to transfer characters there is no way to prevent everyone from selling their characters. However, allowing players to sell their characters also offers a chance for N soft to make additional income from character transfer.

In closing I believe these suggestions would offer an advantage to the players, as well as a benefit to N-soft and Guild Wars.

I am looking for some feed back.

Ebay is illegal...all selling of accounts on ebay is illegal, by the terms of conduct posted by NCsoft/Anet for the Guild Wars series...

A good idea but all I see are racial issues up the pooper for ANET.

Default why?

I understand what you guys are saying; However why can't Guild Wars use a "search bot" to keep an eye on e-bay. if any suspect sells come to view then Guild Wars can do as they see fit with the character and account. even if there is not name posted on e-bay there should be a way that they can limit it. This still seems to be a doable thing.

And I do not think this should be an in game feature. I think it should be in the game store.

It could also be something that you need to e-mail support and explain your case. this may increase the number or support e-mails but that way you would need a legitimate reason to transfer a character.

this would make it available for people to give characters to new players that need a more experienced character to get them started. or a way to build your guild teams by transferring within guilds. I do not think that this is a bad or impossible task. I believe that it is something that will come in handy for certain people and strategies in the game.

NEVER.

Not only would it be against just about every policy rule A.net has been enforcing since the dawn of the game, but it also removes the learning curve for new players.

The excuse that "new players that need a more experienced character to get them started" is hogwash - you make your own experienced character, and in the process you, learn how to play that character.
This is an integral part of Guild Wars - in fact, any game.
Skipping or removing that, would be akin to excising all pre-level 20 content from the game and just let players create their own PvP-style roleplay characters.

The only people to profit from it would be speculators, profiteers, scammers and botfarms, certainly NOT the player community a.net has carefully cultivated over the past 2 years.

I totally agree with ClanYumemiru!
Might as well start selling accounts with everything unlocked and all new characters at lvl 20,- titles cost extra!

That would ruin everything! The only way you have of trying to figure if people can hold their own in PvE would go right out the window!

Actually, CCP do this already via thier account section on the EvE online website, they charge 20Euros for the privilege, but it works and its done by them, officially and only to do it...

Ok, it doesn't stop ebaying, but at least its done cleanly and with a paper trail

I didnt completely understand most of that. You want to be able to transfer a character from your account to someone elses, or another one of your accounts?

Thats basically cheating!

How is it fair that you could basically buy a complete character?
How is it fair if you purchase a pve character who has completed the entire game, got all titles and skills?

It would remove the entire need to even play through the pve aspect!

/not signed

It would incourage and legitimise people selling accounts. Something Anet doesnt allow. You would create a situation where people lvled up charactes to 20, completed the campaigns and then sold their chars.

Plus people could get hacked.

If you assume all you need is someones email addres to choose the account to transfer from and too! Then all you need is to hack their password.

People would steal entire characters from your account. This isnt something we need.

Not a good idea...

The only way I could see this idea justified is if aNet required you to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you own and operate both the game making the transfer as well as the game receiving the transfer.

Which case, I think it makes more sense to figure out a way to combine two accounts (for those who have a secondary account and don't need it any longer).

eBay does not mean eBay.com

It means virtual trades. There's much bigger sites which specialize into that. Scanning eBay doesn't do anything - it delisted virtual items anyway.

Allowing character transfers is so horribly abusable it cannot happen. Even if provided through online store by Anet. It's simply broken by design.

I was going to mention CCP do this but you beat me to it. In EvE it does kind of have a point since your character is built in real time.

But why would you want to do it in GW? Especially since the OP said skills, missions etc will be reset based on the buyers account.

So you'd basically be buying a lvl 20 character? Something most people can do in less than 1 day or play. If this did happen it would quickly turn into:

WTS lvl 20 Warrior with uber rares : £xx
